It is 435 B.C. A fifteen year old Greek girl talks about her life in Athens.

Topics include where she lives and the slaves who work in her house. The government of the city is described, explaining the roles of men and women at different levels of society.

She also talks about the school that her brother goes to - although she is taught at home by her mother. Finally entertainment and sport are discussed, from storytelling, to the theatre and Olympic Games.

The follow-up worksheets are differentiated for children of all abilities from non-readers to the very able. An abridged version of the script is provided giving children experience of reading for information. A wide range of materials, extension activities and fact files allow children to explore the topic in more detail and make links to other areas of the curriculum.
