Also included are activity materials and photocopiable sheets on non-fiction and fiction classification and a Library Skills certificate reward programme with six levels of achievement.
The 36 page book 'Melvil Dewey - his System' tells the story of how, as a boy, Melvil Dewey developed a system for organising his own collection of books and how this system was expanded and eventually adopted as a way of classifying books in libraries around the world.
'A Bow for Toppy' is a 28 page book with a story for younger readers to introduce the concept of using numbers to classify objects and books.
Several activity ideas and photocopiable sheets are provided. These are used alongside the storybooks to support and reinforce the idea of classifying non-fiction books.
Further photocopiable masters are provided introducing the idea of classification of fiction books by genre and author as well as templates for book and poetry reviews at KS1 and KS2.
Finally record sheets and certificate masters are provided for a Library Skills reward programme covering the development of skills from the Foundation Stage to the end of Y6.
